The current wastewater treatment facility improvement project in Perry has had an increase in price.

Perry City Administrator Sven Peterson says the City had a few surprises during the design process for this project. He notes the big part is the pre-design phase that was given to the Iowa Department of Natural Resource to review.

“The Iowa DNR came back and said that we had to redesign it and build for additional capacity so they didn’t like the numbers and calculations and design that Bolton and Menk presented so basically they had to go back and redesign it.”

Peterson says the redesign came with an additional cost.

“When that happens there is additional design cost and there will be additional construction cost just purely from the nature that there is physically more work to be done.”

Also, Peterson says the additional $530,000 cost added to the services from Bolton and Menk is a tough situation but the cost is needed for desperate improvements to the facility.
