With the holiday season now over, the City of Jefferson is reminding residents of what is allowed to be recycled from holiday decorations.
City Council member Matt Wetrich says wrapping paper and gift bags with glitter are not allowed to be recycled. However, gift bags that don’t have glitter on them and have their handles removed can be recycled. Toys can’t be recycled, but the boxes the new toys came in, along with the plastic inside of those boxes that are marked with a one or two in the recycle logo can be recycled.
Wetrich notes, there are some different online options for recycling holiday lights instead of throwing those into the regular garbage. He reminds residents if there are items that can’t be recycled placed into their recycling bins, then the entire load must be dumped into the regular garbage.
Public Works Director Dave Morlan adds the City will pick up discarded real Christmas trees on the regular garbage route through January 27th.
