A 2008 Dodge truck, driven by 26-year-old Tyler Mattingly of Fort Dodge, was traveling east on 170th Street, when Mattingly crested a hill and was left of the centerline. Mattingly struck head-on with a 2015 Chevrolet TK that was traveling west on 170th Street and driven by 29-year-old Brandon Kramer of Lanesboro. Mattingly’s vehicle came to a rest in the north ditch, while Kramer’s vehicle rolled once and came to a rest on its wheels in the south ditch.
Four people were injured, including Mattingly. The others were passengers, including 22-year-old Aubri Roper of Paton, 25-year-old Jacob Lawler of Wall Lake and 21-year-old Jordan Downs of Denver, Colorado. Mattingly, Lawler and Downs were taken by helicopter to Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, while Roper was taken by ground ambulance to St. Anthony’s Regional Hospital in Carroll. The extent of their injuries is unknown, but the crash report shows none of the injured were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. According to the State Patrol, distracted driving may have been a factor in the collision.
