Hospice of the Midwest is seeking volunteers to help provide care.
Hospice of the Midwest in Guthrie Center offers people the option to volunteer in different ways to help their patients. Volunteer Coordinator Allie Dorpinghaus says the presence of volunteers can make a big impact on a patient’s mood.
“Having that bond between a volunteer and a patient is very important just because it makes them happier. They get excited. They know that they’re sick, and they know that they aren’t seeking treatment anymore. They know that their diagnosis is terminal. However, bringing in a light or a person who is able to cheer them up in those down days really helps.”
Volunteers can spend as little or as much time as they choose with the patients. For more information on the volunteer process, click here.
