An Iowa law for sports wagering has changed for 2021.
When the Iowa Legislature passed a bill in 2019 to allow for sports betting, individuals who were 21 and older could bet on sports, but excluding Olympic athletes under 18, along with high school and minor league sports. From 2019-2020, those interested in sports betting had to register in-person at one of the state’s 19 casinos and use their sportsbook agency, including placing bets online.
However, this year is the first year individuals 21 and over can do sports betting online without having to register in a casino. Wild Rose Entertainment, including Wild Rose Casino and Resort in Jefferson, have partnered with the Illinois-based Rush Street Interactive with BetRivers.com, its online sports betting service. Anyone 21 and older can register remotely through BetRivers.com, where they can deposit funds and place bets online from anywhere in Iowa.
