Jefferson residents are reminded of a snow removal ordinance for their sidewalks.

City Building Official Chad Stevens tells Raccoon Valley Radio residents must remove all accumulated snow and ice from their sidewalks following a snow event. Public Works Director Dave Morlan requests that when residents are removing snow from their sidewalks or driveways to not deposit the snow onto the street.

“They can really helps us out by, when they scoop their driveways, or if they have a company that comes and does it, if we’ve already plowed the streets, we really appreciate it if they don’t put snow back onto the streets after they’ve been cleared.”

Stevens says residents have a 12-hour time frame to remove snow and ice accumulations, otherwise the City may do it and assess the cost as a lean on the property. The charge is $130 per hour for a minimum of one hour.
