Greene County and City of Jefferson snow removal crews continue to make progress of clearing the roads.
Greene County Engineer Wade Weiss tells Raccoon Valley Radio the Secondary Roads Department plowed the paved county roads from noon to 5pm Tuesday. They will then hit all of the county roads beginning tomorrow morning.
Jefferson Public Works Director Dave Morlan says city crews have been out since noon and will continue to clear the residential streets until 8pm. He anticipates that by that time, vehicles can begin to park on the residential streets again, as the snow ordinance will be over, pending additional snowfall. Morlan notes parking will be prohibited around the downtown square from 2-6am Wednesday and Thursday mornings. He explains why that is.
“At the time of the snow event some people will get up and get their sidewalks cleared. Others won’t get it done until later that day or that evening. And so typically we have to plow the entire square twice, and then remove the windrows in the center of the square.”
Motorists are reminded to be aware of any snow plows that are on the road, and to drive to the conditions of the roadway. Raccoon Valley Radio will continue to provide road condition updates, and cancellation and postponement information.
