Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity averages five major projects per year in Guthrie County, but the organization is looking to expand and do even more if they can draw additional volunteers and donations.
Executive Director Jeff Lamourex says the pandemic restricted the organization from meeting that quota this year, but they were able to help families in Panora and Guthrie Center with a handicap accessible ramp and windows and siding repair.
Lamourex says he’s hoping the organization’s fundraising drive will push him closer to his ultimate goal.
“It’d be my dream someday to be able to build a home in Guthrie County. We started projects in Guthrie County in 2015 when Heart of Iowa expanded from just Boone and Greene County, and started serving in Guthrie County. We’ve just done the home repair projects. My goal at some point would be to build a home either from scratch or we’ve also done some projects in the other two counties where it’s been a rehab, where we found a house and refurbished it for a homeowner.”
