A lack of continuity for the Greene County High School boys’ basketball team can be looked at as a factor in the the Rams’ 0-5 start to the season. Coach Chris Nelson hasn’t had a game yet where the five players he envisioned would be starters have been on the court at the same time.
Another factor is cold shooting. Through the first five games, the Rams are well below the percentages the coach would like to have in shooting from the floor and from the free throw line. Greene County is averaging just under 46 points per game. As a team, the Rams are making only one-third of their shots from the field (92-276). From three-point range, it’s just 20.2% with 24 made three-point goal out of 119 attempts. Free throw shooting is 21 of 40 (52.5%), also below where Coach Nelson would like it to be. The Rams are getting 55 shot attempts per game and have turned the ball over less than 15 times per contest.
Having a week of practice before opening the 2021 portion of the season on Jan. 5 vs. Webster City in Jefferson could help those shooting percentages. Coach Nelson is also helpful of having all the players healthy and available for the game vs. the Lynx. You can hear the Jan. 5 girl/boy doubleheader on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with the girls playing at 6 p.m. and the boys to follow.
