With several inches of snowfall due to come through the City of Jefferson today, residents are reminded of the City’s snow ordinance.
The ordinance is in effect whenever there is at least one-half-inch of snowfall. When that happens, vehicles must be removed from all city streets, alleys and city-owned off-street parking until the snow event stops and the streets have been cleared from curb to curb. Additionally, parking is prohibited around the downtown square from 2-6am. Public Works Director Dave Morlan says crews usually take two days to fully clear the downtown square of snow. He explains why that is.
“At the time of the snow event some people will get up and get their sidewalks cleared. Others won’t get it done until later that day or that evening. And so typically we have to plow the entire square twice, and then remove the windrows in the center of the square.”
Morlan appreciates everyone’s compliance with the ordinance so that they can do their jobs of clearing the streets of snow. Click the link below to see the full ordinance.
