Mary Jane Brittain, 86, of Waukee, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, December 26, 2020 at
her home in Waukee. A visitation with family present will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.,
Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Caldwell Parrish – McCalley Chapel in Adel. A funeral
service will begin at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 31, 2020 at the funeral home with burial to
follow in the North McDonald Cemetery in Madison County. Memorials may be directed to the
North McDonald Cemetery for the continued care of the cemetery. All attendees are asked to
follow guidelines of COVID-19 based on the Iowa Department of Public Health. Online

Mary Jane Brittain was born December 12, 1934 in Jefferson Township, Madison County, Iowa
to Clarence and Mary (Brayman) Brittain. She graduated from De Soto High School. Following
school Mary Jane began working for the Iowa Bar Association and following that worked
numerous years for KBI an insurance company.
Mary Jane had numerous hobbies and interests. Starting in the late 1950’s she travelled the
world with her sister, Carol Ann Brittain going abroad and exploring many different countries and
continents. She enjoyed being in plays and also enjoyed being on radio shows during the state
fair time. Above all else, Mary Jane was a caring sister, aunt, great aunt and friend who will be
greatly missed.
Her love and memories will be carried on by her sister, Evelynn Hubbard of Winterset; nephews
and nieces, Clark Brittain of De Soto; Jason Brittain of Cheyenne, WY; Wayne Aldrich of
Tucson, AZ; Dennis Aldrich of Van Meter, Loren Aldrich of Colorado; Susan Strause of Danville;
Nancy Hansen of Bagley; Ron Brittain of Newport News, VA; Cheryl Thompson of Des Moines;
Steve Brittain of Dallas, TX; Shirley Sevde of Waukee; Randy Brittain of Adel; Mike Brittain of
Woodward; David Brittain of Dallas Center and special cousin, Donna Jones of Des Moines. In
addition, numerous great and great-great nephews and nieces; extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Brittain; brothers, Joe, Walter
and Gene Brittain; sisters, Ruth Aldrich and Carol Brittain and five nephews.
