The Guthrie County Public Health Department hosted its first COVID-19 vaccination clinic Wednesday.

In total, the department distributed 88 vaccines to healthcare workers. Public Health Director Jotham Arber was pleased with how smoothly the first clinic ran.

“It went really well. We had a really good flow here at the Health Department, and I think that having people pre-register for the vaccine worked out really well. We allowed people to register today to get those shots as well, especially those at the hospital, EMS, any nursing staff. We’ll continue doing that next week as well.” 

Arber said some of the vaccine vials were in a giving mood for the holidays.

“There were a few of them we were getting an additional dose out of. We were able to do the full .5 milliliters. So, we pulled the additional doses and gave those out, and then, we just tracked those individuals. I’m not sure if that will continue to happen. It happened with the Pfizer vaccine. They had additional doses, so it wasn’t a surprise. It’s always nice to know that there’s potentially a little more vaccine available.”

Arber received his vaccine and said the only effect he felt was slight arm soreness. The next vaccination clinic will be Monday at the Guthrie County Health Department from 1 to 4 p.m.
