The Guthrie County Farm Bureau delivered food baskets to 25 families in need Tuesday just in time for the holiday season.
Outreach Coordinator Megan Kelly says the program was a great success.
“Everyone we came in contact (with) was very much surprised that they were nominated and received those gift baskets. We did get one pretty excited one who was brought to tears a little bit that she was nominated and that she received something, and it really did make her day.”
Baskets were delivered in Guthrie Center, Panora, Jamaica, Bayard and rural Guthrie County. The baskets contained redeemable certificates for meat, corn, dinner rolls, potatoes and gravy and various other items.
Kelly says the distribution of the baskets drove home exactly what the Farm Bureau wanted to do.
“It was just such a good feeling to give back to the community and then, the reactions that we received from them really made us feel like this was the program we should have picked for this year to brighten someone’s day or holiday season when they maybe haven’t had the best year.”
Guthrie County Farm Bureau plans to continue the program in 2021. Donations for the food baskets came from Farm Bureau members as well as a partnership with Farm Bureau Financial Services.
