The Perry Area Food Pantry has created a new outreach program to help local college students.
What was supposed to begin earlier this year, before the coronavirus pandemic hit, has finally rolled out to help assist local college students. Now, Perry Area Food Pantry Manager Lou Hoger says students can pick up a tote bag at Des Moines Area Community College Perry VanKirk Career Academy.
“Those tote bags are available at the DMACC Campus for students to come in and grab and they can bring those to the food pantry and we can fill those bags for the students there. Hopefully, within the next week or two, I plan to have some of those tote bags filled by my volunteers and they will just be at the DMACC Center.”
Hoger also says the bags that would be at the DMACC Center would be filled with non-perishable items.
The bags are available to bring to the Perry Area Food Pantry during normal business hours, Tuesday’s from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and Thursday’s from 1-3:30 p.m.
