After delays, several change orders and moving departments, sports and district staff around, the middle school conversion project is nearing completion for the Greene County School District.
Sam Harding is the district’s owner representative on the project and says they are finishing punch list items. Harding notes one highlight was the gym renovations, which he calls the “transformation of all-time.”
“The transformation of that room just takes your breath away if you’ve ever been in it. It’s going to be a tremendous facility for our middle school kids. They can have their own gym for the first time ever and not have to share it with the varsity kids.”
Harding says the gym now has five-foot windows lining the top of the north wall for natural light, part of the former high school shop space was used to add more floor room for bleachers that seat 300 people, and the sound system as well as one of the scoreboards from the former middle school gym is now in the new middle school gym.
Harding says other renovations include converting the former Ram Restaurant into the administrative offices, school board meeting room and the building principal’s office. He anticipates turning over the administrative office to the district during Christmas break, which is the final step toward completing the project.
