An alleged hit and run incident Tuesday night in Grand Junction resulted in life-threatening injuries.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, the incident occurred at 8:10pm at the intersection of 16th Street and Sandoe Street East. Seventy-two-year-old Robert Kinnick of Grand Junction was traveling north on 16th Street in a 2005 Dodge Ram truck when it hit 46-year-old Travis Fincel of Grand Junction, who was walking north – and within the roadway- on 16th Street.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams said  the pickup truck allegedly left the scene, and they found the vehicle parked at a Casey’s gas station, where Kinnick was taken in for questioning. Williams said Kinnick admitted to hitting Fincel.

Fincel suffered life-threatening injuries and was taken by Greene County Ambulance to Greene County Medical Center. He was later taken by air ambulance to Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. Kinnick was uninjured. The cause of the incident remains under investigation at this time by Iowa State Patrol. Grand Junction Fire and Rescue, as well as the Greene County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
