The Jefferson City Council met in special session Friday.
The Council approved hiring Sarah Morlan as the City Accounting Clerk and Administrative Assistant for $40,000 per year. She will start January 4th. The Council also approved replacing four programmable panels at the water treatment plant for an amount not to exceed $90,000. The repair was budgeted for next fiscal year, but Public Works Director Dave Morlan said the repair was needed this fiscal year, and City Attorney Bob Schwartzkopf suggested the situation be labeled as an emergency repair.
Next, the Council approved an additional five-year contract of $14,400 to purchase four additional tasers for the police department. Chief Mark Clouse noted all officers would now have a taser, which will help those off-duty officers that respond to calls for service to be armed with a taser. The Council also agreed to continue video recording services of regular council meetings with Sebourn Video Services. A new yearly contract will be considered at a future meeting.
Finally, following a discussion, the Council agreed to have a financial advisor for consultation on building the Greene County Animal Facility. The Council rejected the five bids for the project, due to the lowest bid being over $1 million, which was $500,000 more than the anticipated cost for construction.
