The Guthrie County Farm Bureau is hoping to surprise some families in need Tuesday.
Outreach Coordinator Megan Kelly explains the origin of this new program.
“This is a new activity for the Guthrie County Farm Bureau. In November, I brainstormed some ideas to bring to the board, different things they could do. They came up with the Christmas Food Basket activity and we took a spin on it by requesting nominations from people in the community, anybody in Guthrie County. We partnered with the Farm Bureau Financial Services office here in Guthrie (Center). We decided to take these nominations, sort through them and present food baskets to some of the people that were nominated.”
Kelly says Farm Bureau plans to continue this program next year, although she hopes Tuesday’s deliveries really put a bow on the inaugural effort.
“I think that they’ve really enjoyed being able to help out and seeing the reactions. I think it’s going to be great when they head out on Tuesday to deliver these baskets and hopefully they can catch some of the people at home and see the reaction. Most of them don’t know they’ve been nominated; it was an anonymous nomination.”
