The Greene County High School Career and Technical Education students hosted a food drive Wednesday to support the local food pantry.
The CTE students and Raccoon Valley Radio partnered for live broadcasts from the high school in Jefferson. Coordinator Teresa Green says they raised close to 400 non-perishable food items for the Greene County Action Resource Center, along with a major anonymous cash donation. High school senior Lillian Muir comments on how well the food drive went.
“I think it went pretty well and getting the cash donation really helped us too. I think it’s great to give back to the community, especially this year with our new school and how much they’ve done for us. So that’s why I think we decided to do a food drive just to give back to everybody else who is in need during this time of year, especially around the holidays.”
Junior Adian Neil echoes Muir’s comments and believes their donation will continue to help those in need.
“Especially this time of year for families who are in need of these resources. Especially with COVID and the pandemic it makes it even harder potentially for certain families. And so I think it’s just a good thing this year, and getting so much this year, and then the cash donation really helps.”
Green appreciates everyone who donated to the food drive and the four sponsors for the radio broadcasts, including Community State Bank in Paton, Hamilton Redi-Mix, New Cooperative, and the Greene County School District.
