Greene County residents are encouraged to help support the local food pantry with a special food drive that ends tomorrow.
The Greene County High School Career and Technical Education Department is sponsoring a food drive, in partnership with the Greene County Action Resource Center. Non-perishable food items will be accepted until 11am Wednesday, following the “Fill Big Red” campaign during the Raccoon Valley Radio Caring Christmas Food Drive live broadcast from the high school from 9-11am that day.
Freshman Allie Lawson is currently taking some CTE culinary classes and comments on doing this worthwhile venture.
“I think it’s great, especially during this time, and during COVID, everyone is like, they’ve cut people off of jobs, so not everyone has enough money to go to the (grocery) store. So I think this is a great thing.”
With this year being the first for the new Career Academy, freshman Grace Hardaway describes her experience taking agriculture classes.
“It was a really open environment and I really learned a lot. There were a lot of different things that you could do at the Career Academy. I chose an agriculture one for FFA because I felt it would help me succeed in there.”
The high school estimates about 1,000 food items will be needed to “Fill Big Red” and donate those to the ARC. Food items can be donated today and tomorrow morning at the high school’s main office on the north side of the building.
