Clean-up efforts are continuing for the City of Jefferson from August’s derecho storm.
Public Works Director Dave Morlan says brush and tree limbs from the August 10th storm that has been taken to the yard waste dump site near Daubendiek Park is finally being grinded down starting this week. He talks about how much brush the City has collected in that time span.
“I estimate we had like 3,500-cubic yards of brush that was taken down there from the storm. It goes from clear at the south end – where the tree line is – clear north to almost the dirt pile that’s down there. So it’s probably a footfield and a half in length.”
Morlan notes that along with that, there still remains trees that they have identified on resident’s easements that they will take down, due to the damage those trees had from the storm.
“The City will take it down. Once the tree is down, we’ll have the stump ground. And then we come back and dirt gets put in, and it gets seeded with grass seed. We still have some limbs here and there that are hanging that we’ll get to and take care of when we have time.”
Morlan is hopeful to complete the process by the end of the year, depending on weather and the winter season.
