With a strong chance of a wintry mix turning into snow today, it’s a good time to review some winter driving safety tips.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams reminds motorists to make sure there are adequate treads on their vehicle’s tires, along with a well-stocked emergency kit with blankets, bottled water and a few non-perishable food items in case you are stranded on the side of the road for a while. Williams points out during this time of year motorists need to be aware of slushy roads.

“Most of the time thick slush is almost more dangerous than ice because you’re driving faster and then you hit the thick pile of slush, and you hydroplane a lot faster than you do on regular water.”

Williams adds, bridges tend to ice over quicker than a normal roadway, so he suggests to always drive to the conditions of the road. According to the National Weather Service, there is a possibility of 1-3 inches of snowfall in the Greene, Dallas and Guthrie counties.
