Volunteers are needed this weekend for a cleanup project at one of Greene County’s prairie areas.
The Perkins Prairie Preserve is a 30-acre prairie preserve west of Seven Hills Park and volunteers will help to remove brush and non-native plants from the area. The land was donated by Carol Perkins and Karen Voge-Perkins in 2014 and is owned and stewarded by the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation.
Volunteers will use various hand tools such as loppers or hand saws to cut invasive brush, and they will work alongside experienced individuals with chainsaws. No experience is needed, and organizers welcome families and kids as well. Volunteers should wear sturdy shoes, long pants, masks, work gloves and can bring their own water bottle.
The workday will take place from 10am-noon on Saturday. Registrations are required for the free public event. Click the link below to sign-up.
