It’s very early in the high school basketball season, but tonight’s Paton-Churdan girl/boy doubleheader at Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton could help all four teams determine if they are legitimate conference title contenders.

Both girls teams are 2-0. The Rockets are led by 6′ 3″ senior Danielle Hoyle, who’s averaging more than 20 points per game in the early going. Senior Tessa Steimel is also scoring in double figures. The Spartans have four players averaging between 10 and 16 points in their first two games.

On the boys’ side, both teams are 1-1 with resounding victories over Glidden-Ralston from both the Spartans and Rockets. EEHK’s loss is to Coon Rapids-Bayard by two points while the P-C loss is by 17 at Ar-We-Va in Westside.

The P-C teams return to the home court in Churdan on Friday, Dec. 11 vs. CR-B.
