Perry Grand 3 Theatres and the Stuart Fremont Theatre are continuing their annual free “Merchant Movies” series tomorrow, which is made possible by the generosity of local businesses owners, and the theatre owners themselves.
A free holiday movie is being shown during four Saturdays at 11 a.m. at both theatres, with the second installment featuring “Elf.” Eric Tiernan, who owns the Perry theatre and co-owns the Stuart theatre, says they decided in effort to protect the health and safety of the community, tickets will not be distributed by the sponsors. Instead, Tiernan says the public can just walk into the theatre to enjoy the movie. He shares how the financial support has gone, “I think I’m up to 12 sponsors in Stuart which the word got out a little quicker to them and they’re very generous. And a lot of them are concerned about their business, so this is kind of a stretch for them and I basically told them it wouldn’t cost more than $50, and if it cost more than that I’d probably eat it myself. But Perry I think I’ve got five or six signed up so far, the word is just getting out up there, and they usually come through pretty good up there too. Business communities are pretty supportive, both communities, and we’re pretty happy about that.”
Merchant Movies will continue with National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation being shown on December 12th, and The Polar Express on December 19th.
