As more people are wearing masks while going out into public it’s important to remember mask etiquette and why we do it.
Dallas County Public Health Public Information Officer Ann Cochran explains the differences between source control and personal protective qualities to mask-wearing. Where source control stops the person from spreading their germs and the personal protective quality makes you less likely to inhale germs that are in the air.
With this Cochran tells Raccoon Valley Radio the importance of finding the right mask as well as wearing them properly when out in public.
“It’s important to note that not all facial coverings are equal. The best choice is a mask that is at least two layers of fabric without any of those little vent things on it and it has to cover both your mouth and your nose. So if you see people walking around with a mask on but they’ve got it only on their mouth and they’ve got their nose sticking out that defeats the purpose.”
