Many of Iowa’s 2020-2021 deer hunting seasons begin in the upcoming weeks, with increased opportunity for Guthrie County hunters to harvest deer this year.
Iowa Department of Natural Resources Conservation Officer Jeremy King shares how recent hunting patterns have caused a change for the County this year, “We for the last 5-6 years we’ve been giving out or made available 1,950 antler-less doe tags for all the combined deer seasons and so people could buy those and sell those which whatever season they bought that tag for. We realized that we’ve been selling out the last couple of years early before season closes if people still want to shoot more deer, and there are still more deer out there so they upped that 200 additional tags this year. So all the people who hunt Guthrie County for antlerless deer or does will have 2,150 tags available to them.”
King encourages hunters to enjoy the outdoors but to always wear blaze orange and only hunt on permissible land. He also reminds the public of a new free online deer exchange the Iowa DNR has implemented, which you can find a link to here.
