For all intents and purposes, the harvest season is completed across Iowa.

Specifically in Guthrie County, ISU Extension Agriculture Agronomist Mike Witt talks about how the harvest season went overall, following the sustained drought conditions and the derecho storm from August.

“We got a really fast start, and we were able to get a lot of things going and get it done fairly quickly. So it seemed like we were ahead of the game, and then it slowed down to a creepy-crawling pace near the end. If you look at just averages, we probably had about an average harvest season from beginning to end. However, it was much more front loaded this year as far as getting those crops out and then pulling out the crops that were the damaged ones, or the ones that required more effort took more time.”

Witt estimates corn yields in Guthrie County to be along the averages compared to 2010-2019 of 170 bushels per acre. He believes soybean yields in Guthrie County to be slightly higher than the averages between 2010-2019 of 51 bushels per acre, up to 53 bushels per acre.
