As much of the previous week has centered around holiday shopping, tomorrow is a day set to highlight giving back to the community.
Tomorrow is Giving Tuesday, a national movement started in 2012 to celebrate and provide incentives to give to those in need. It aims to inspire people to give back to improve their local communities and to inform smarter ways to contribute to charities and causes that help create a better world. Perry Area Food Pantry Manager Lou Hoger tells Raccoon Valley Radio what they currently need, “I’ll start with soup because the Food Bank of Iowa has minimal soup available. They have lots of other commodities, but that’s one they seldom have or have limited amounts of. We will always have in stock: chicken noodle soup, tomato soup, and vegetable soup. Vegetable soup is actually hard to come by from grocery stores right now. We also always offer fruit, pasta, pasta sauce, boxes of cereal, peanut butter, rice, primarily those items.”
Hoger says you can find more information on volunteer opportunities and how to donate by calling the pantry at 515-465-5185. You can hear more from Hoger on today’s Perry Fareway Let’s Talk Dallas County program on KDLS and RaccoonValleyRadio.com.
