When the Greene County varsity basketball teams open their seasons on Friday night at home in the brand new gym in Jefferson, they’ll get right back on the court Saturday afternoon. The Rams play a Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girl/boy doubleheaders starting at 6 p.m. Friday on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com vs. Roland-Story (Story City). It’s a short turnaround because Greene County will host Ogden in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon starting at 1 p.m., also on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The Rams had 100% virtual learning from Nov. 16-24 throughout the school district, which meant to activities or practice of any kind. So, Activities Director Todd Gordon did some rescheduling and the Rams go back-to-back to start the season.

Boys’ head coach Chris Nelson comments. “We’re excited to have that chance. You know the kids want to play, and the coaches want to play, too. Granted, we’ll have some hiccups most likely throughout those two games, but I think we have a group that can do a lot of good things, and they pick up things pretty quickly, so I feel we should be OK going into those two games.”
