The Greene County girls and boys basketball teams are scheduled to open the 2020-21 seasons on Friday, Dec. 4 in Jefferson vs. Roland-Story (Story City). Those games are set for inside the new Greene County HS gym and can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The wrestling team won’t open until Thursday, Dec. 10 in Adel vs. ADM and Gilbert. The winter sports Rams weren’t allowed to practice until Nov. 25 because the school district was on 100% virtual learning through Nov. 24.

Wrestling head coach Zach Beekman talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about why the wrestlers need more practices before they begin competing. “If you’ve got an athlete who’s been in the high school program, they may condition a little bit quicker, and as far at technique goes for that level of wrestling. But, our overall level of conditioning just wouldn’t be there, and that’s where I really think it could be hurtful more than helpful to jump into a competition so early.”

The basketball team rescheduled their first two playing dates once the district went to 100% virtual learning, but the wrestling team simply lost their first two scheduled dates of competition.

Friday’s basketball can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com with coverage at 5:45 p.m. The girls play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow.
