Iowa farmers are wrapping up the 2020 harvest season.
According to the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture Crop Progress and Conditions Report, only two-percent of Iowa’s corn grain crop is left to be harvested, which is about three weeks ahead of last year and 11 days ahead of the five-year average. There is only one-percent of soybeans left to be harvested, which is over two weeks ahead of last year and eight days ahead of the five-year average. Farmers in some areas of the State continue to clean up debris from the August derecho storm.
There was an average of 6.3 suitable days of fieldwork last week. Farmers are preparing extra tillage for next year out of concern related to the derecho’s damaged corn.
