The Perry Public Library is postponing reopening their building to the public due to increasing COVID-19 numbers in the community.
Library Director Mary Murphy initially hoped to reopen the week of Thanksgiving, but that has been put on hold until further notice. Murphy tells Raccoon Valley Radio as excited as she is to welcome patrons inside, the safety of the staff and community come first, “We, as the staff at the library, miss everybody coming into the library. We miss our people and we want to be open and accessible. We have to do it cautiously and very thoughtfully.”
According to the Dallas County Coronavirus Dashboard Tuesday, there are 64 active COVID-19 cases in the 50220 zip code. The Library will continue their contactless curbside services and virtual programs. Murphy says the Library Board of Trustees will review reopening the facility during their next meeting on December 10th.
