After almost 20 years, there will be a new U.S. Representative from Iowa’s Fourth District.
Republican Randy Feenstra defeated Democrat J.D. Scholten with 62-percent of the votes from the 39-county district. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that he was humbled when he found out he had won the election and recalls what he learned while on the campaign trail for the past 22 months.
“They just want to have government be somewhat limited. That yes, we need certain regulations, but just don’t have it so burdensome. Don’t have taxes so burdensome that 30-55% of your money is going to the government. They want to grow, they want to live, they want to prosper.”
Feenstra wants to address several things when he goes to Washington, D.C., such as serving on the agriculture committee, dealing with the national debt and other public programs.
“I am a passionate supporter that we all paid into social security and Medicare, generation after generation. We’ve got to keep that, but to keep that, you’ve got to get your spending under control. So I’ll work passionately to get to a balanced budget. Then obviously life is so important that we’re all here for a purpose and a reason, and that we should have the right to live.”
Feenstra will replace out-going Republican Steve King, who served in the U.S. House for 18 years and was defeated by Feenstra in the June primary election.
