Republican Carter Nordman of Adel was elected to the Iowa House of Representatives during last week’s general election.
Nordman will replace Republican Chris Hagenow, who decided not to run for reelection to spend more time with his family. Nordman will not only be a new face in Des Moines, but he will also represent a new generation as he’ll be one of the youngest representatives at 21 years old.
Nordman tells Raccoon Valley Radio what he hopes to accomplish, “There’s going to be a lot of things that the Iowa legislature’s going to have to look at this coming session, especially with the year that we’ve had with COVID-19. We need to continue and always look on how we can lower the tax burden for Iowa families because Iowans know how to spend their money better than the government does. Ensuring that we have a competitive tax code, so that businesses want to come here, families want to come here, should always be a top priority.”
Nordman won the race by just over 5,000 votes against Democrat Nick Miller. District 19 encompasses Dallas County – apart from the five northwest townships and the cities of Clive, Waukee, and West Des Moines – and the northwest corner of Polk County. The 89th Iowa General Assembly begins January 11, 2021.
