Greene County and other Iowa high school girls’ basketball teams begin official practice today. Activities Director Todd Gordon is in his second year here and first season as a coach. He’s formerly been a coach of male and female basketball teams from Class 1A schools to the collegiate ranks. Jeff Lamoureux returns as the assistant coach.
The coaching staff returns 10 letter winners from the 3-20 team of last season that was seventh among eight teams in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. The conference now has seven teams for this school year with Gilbert and North Polk (Alleman) leaving for the Raccoon River Activities Conference, and West Marshall (State Center) coming in.
Coach Gordon told Raccoon Valley Radio among the goals are to teach the game of basketball, play at the speed the girls are capable of, and learn to compete. The Rams open the season in their brand new gymnasium on Monday, Nov. 30 vs. Ogden in a girl/boy doubleheader that can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
