Some 15 Greene County varsity football players are involved in three or four sports. Bryce Stalder, the Greene County junior who was named the Class 2A District 9 football Offensive Player of the Year earlier this week is one of those. A four-sport participant, Stalder is in basketball, track & field, and baseball, in addition to football.
He talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about the advantages to being a multi-sport athlete. “There are the different movements of the body. Studies have shown if you are a one sport athlete, and you do the same exact motions over and over, your body gets tired and sore more often, and you’re more likely to hurt yourself because it’s just the same motion. As a four sport athlete, you’re doing different motions constantly every single season, which also helps with conditioning. You stay in good shape all year with no strict offseason and I think it helps in a lot of ways.”
Boys’ basketball and wrestling practice officially begin in Iowa on Nov. 16, while official girls’ basketball practice starts this Monday, Nov. 9.
