Two Guthrie County communities are partnering this week to kick off the holiday shopping season with a three-day event.

The Guthrie Center and Panora chambers of commerce are hosting the “Heart of Guthrie County Holiday Showcase” from 4-8 p.m. tomorrow and all day Friday and Saturday. Several Chamber member businesses are offering special discounts and giveaways, and the public can pick up a postcard at any of the participating businesses to fill out your name and submit for a gift basket with several local goodies. Panora Chamber member Julie Wykoff says she hopes all those who are wanting to dine out or go gift shopping do so locally, “The last six weeks of the year for any retail business generally make up a large percentage of the annual sales. This year it’s even more important with the number of weeks that were lost due to closures and things, and I think everyone is hoping and praying for a great holiday season.”
