The Iowa High School Athletic Association released “pods” or four team groupings for the next two rounds of the football playoffs. Greene County is assigned to Class 2A Pod B, which includes PCM (Monroe), Atlantic, and West Marshall (State Center). The Rams play its third round or round of 16 contest in Monroe vs. PCM on Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. The game can be heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. Atlantic goes to State Center vs. WM in the other game and the two winners meet in the quarterfinals on Nov. 6.
Greene County is the only one of the four not ranked in a 2A top 10. The Rams are 7-2 and winners of six games in a row. PCM is 8-0 and ranked second. WM and Atlantic are both 7-1 and both have won seven straight after falling in week number one, so these four teams have combined to win 28 straight games this season. Greene County is also the only one of the four to not win their district. The Rams were second to District 9 champion Atlantic. WM won District 3 and PCM is the District 8 champion. Three of the four are Heart of Iowa Activities Conference members with Atlantic belonging to the Hawkeye 10 Conference. Football in Iowa is played in districts and not conferences, so the three HOIAC members would only meet if they are assigned to the same district, or in the case of the Rams at PCM on Friday, when they meet in a playoff game.
