Over 20 people attended a meet-and-greet of Democratic candidates from the U.S. House to the Greene County Supervisors Sunday afternoon.

The candidates featured J.D. Scholten for Iowa’s Fourth Congressional District, Cynthia Paschen for Iowa Senate District 24, Shelly Stotts for Iowa House District 47, Linn Cipperley-Price for Greene County Supervisor District 1, Chris Henning for Greene County Supervisor District 4, and Ginny Showman for Greene County Supervisor District 5. The event started at the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower where the candidates toured the iconic structure in Jefferson, before heading to the Thomas Jefferson Gardens Education and Welcome Center.

Each candidate introduced themselves to the crowd and talked about what they were running for in their respective office and some brief topics of what they wanted to address if elected. Scholten finished his 374 town tour and told Raccoon Valley Radio how he feels about campaigning this time around against a new Republican opponent in Iowa Senator Randy Feenstra.

“I think we’re light-years ahead of where we were two years ago at this time. The thing that I see the big difference between (Congressman Steve) King and Feenstra is, I mean people knew who King was and knew where he stood, there’s a lot of unknowns with Senator Feenstra, and the fact that he hasn’t shown up. He’s acting like he’s a 20-year incumbent, when he’s brand new and trying to get the job. And I think that’s turning a lot of people off, we’re hearing that throughout the whole district. What I hope to take from each county and each stop, I hope to bring that to Washington, (D.C.)”
