Two candidates for Greene County Supervisor District 4 are vying for the available seat in the November general election.
Republican incumbent John Muir is a Greene County native and a Perry High School graduate. He lives and farms in the Rippey area. Some of the main issues he wants to address if re-elected are purchasing the Midland Power Cooperative building for a new law enforcement center and eventually building a new county jail. As for hog confinements, Muir believes something needs to be done, but not at the local level.
“I think I’ve spoke on that many times. The state, that’s where the changes need to come from so that everyone in the state is on the same page. I think there’s a place there for the (master) matrix to be revisited and maybe tuned up.”
Democratic challenger Chris Henning is also a Greene County native and is a Jefferson High School graduate. She also manages the Greene County Farmers Market. She wants more transparency and public input. Henning also wants to address water quality issues and describes what’s happening in the Raccoon River.
“We’re also downstream, though, 100 miles of nearly 20,000 acres of drainage that affect our river tourism, our environment, our water tables, and our water supplies, our cities, and our private wells. I’d partner to protect our natural areas, our natural resources, and our water in the Raccoon River Watershed.”
Greene County residents can vote now at the Greene County Courthouse in Jefferson.
