One night after winning in three sets vs. South Hamilton (Jewell), Greene County won its final Heart of Iowa Activities Conference volleyball match on Tuesday vs. Saydel (Des Moines) in the new high school gym in Jefferson. Scores were 25-18, 25-17, 25-17, as Coach Chris Heisterkamp’s Rams finished 2-4 in the conference and improved to 7-15 overall. The Eagles finish the HOIAC campaign at 0-6, are 2-24 overall and have lost their last 21 matches.

Senior Brianna Osterson had 13 kills unofficially, with seven of those in the final set. She had kills on three of the Rams’ last six points and an Osterson ace serve, her fourth of the match, ended the evening. Senior Lily Muir added five kills and three ace serves on the night, while sophomore Emma Hoyle had three aces from the service line, sophomore Natalie Heupel had two aces, with two kills each for junior Brianna Habben and sophomore Bella Schroeder.

It was Senior Night for the sports of volleyball and cross-country as athletes, managers, and coaches were introduced. Eliza Carlson, Lily Muir, and Brianna Osterson are the volleyball seniors, and Kendra Higgins is the volleyball manager. Cross-county seniors are Conner Allender, Julia Follett, Hannah Curtis, Makala Kafer, Sadie Wilson, Connor Brus, Anthony Tolsdorf, and Luis Velazco.

The volleyball regular season is over for the Rams. Greene County stays at home when they open Class 3A Region 2 volleyball play on Monday, Oct. 19 vs. Southeast Valley (Gowrie) at 7 p.m.
