A special live music event is happening later this week in Jefferson to celebrate one of the city’s iconic structures.
The Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower turns 54-years-old this year. To commemorate the occasion, the Bell Tower Community Foundation has four local musicians perform live music on the bells from 5-6pm Friday. The Tower Tunes Live Birthday Concert will feature several different genres of music.
Additionally, the first 54 in-person attendees will receive a birthday treat, along with other treats, and a penny from the tower’s penny souvenir press will be given to anyone listening on the south plaza of the Greene County Courthouse or from their vehicles. Those who can’t listen in-person can watch the performance from anywhere, as the concert will be on the Mahanay Bell Tower’s Facebook page.
As a reminder, the bell tower is only open on the weekends this month from 10am-4pm. Anyone 18 and younger are admitted for free thanks to the sponsorship of the Greene County Community School Foundation. The adult admission is $3 per person.
