There are several contested races for the three Greene County Supervisor seats that are up for election next month, and today we introduce the District 1 candidates.
Democratic candidate Linn Cipperley-Price is from rural Paton and has lived in Greene County for 20 years. She is a military veteran and has a bachelor’s degree in biology. Her main issues she would like to address if elected as a County Supervisor is to have better public communication, along with water quality and hog confinements. She tells Raccoon Valley Radio the County needs a Facebook page that outlines the topics the Supervisors discuss, along with continuing to have their meetings electronically.
She describes her take on water quality and hog confinements.
“I don’t pollute the creek for the people downstream. But obviously, somebody upstream from our creek is because we can’t eat the fish because of the nitrite level. The neighbors to the north of us where we live have planted corn several years in a row. Whatever happened to crop rotation that we were taught in elementary school? Stop rubber-stamping the approval of these hog farms. The citizens don’t want them. The only people that seem to want them are the ones that are profiting from it.”
Republican incumbent Mick Burkett has served two terms as a County Supervisor. He is originally from Dana and currently lives in the Grand Junction area. He is retired, but worked for the former East Greene School District for 30 years. His main issue he wants to address if re-elected as a Supervisor is to purchase the Midland Power Cooperative building for a new law enforcement center, and build a new county jail.
“The state has come in and inspected our jail and says we cannot update that one to meet all the standards. So I really feel in the near future we’re going to have to get a bond issue for a new jail.”
Both candidates are on the ballot for Greene County Supervisor District 1. Early voting is taking place now and Election Day is November 3rd.
