Deadlines are approaching for several relief programs from The U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) after the August derecho.

Public assistance grants are being accepted to help with added costs brought on by the storm, including clean-up costs, emergency protective measures, and public building repairs. A total of 23 counties in Iowa are eligible for federal grant funding, including Dallas, Greene, and Guthrie. Since Greene and Guthrie counties were added in the second wave of disaster declarations, they have until Friday to apply for a letter of intent and interest for this Public Assistance. There’s another 30 days after that to submit the official application.

Dallas and Guthrie counties were also designated as primary disaster areas and are eligible for emergency loans from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to recuperate from the replacement of essential items such as equipment or livestock, reorganization of operations, or the refinancing of debts. Eligible recipients have until May 3rd, 2021.
