Early voting is underway in Iowa, and for Greene County residents there are a few options available.
Greene County Deputy Auditor Billie Hoskins tells Raccoon Valley Radio, eligible voters can vote now in the east rotunda of the Greene County Courthouse. There are plexiglass dividers at the registration desk, and voters are highly encouraged to wear a mask as precautions against COVID-19. Early voting takes place from 8-4:30am Monday-Friday and there will be two special Saturdays that people can vote on October 24th from 8am-5pm and October 31st from 7am-3pm. County Auditor Jane Heun reminds voters about bringing a form of identification to prove who you are.
“Bring their I.D., which is their driver’s license or their non-driver identification. And if they have neither of those, hopefully, they have a voter identification card that has a pin (number) on it, a personal identification number that they were assigned because they had none of the other two.”
People can vote via absentee ballot. You must first fill out and mail or drop off a request form before an absentee ballot can be mailed to you. Heun says once you have the ballot, fill it out, place it in the provided envelope with the affidavit signed and then you can either mail it or drop it off in the dropbox on the east side of the courthouse. Heun talks about voter security.
“Well, our drop box outside it emptied three or four times per day, (and) we’re going to try to make sure it is emptied on weekends. There is a security camera on it, and only our office has the key to open that (the dropbox). So it’s purely an auditor’s office function.”
The final day to request an absentee ballot is October 24th by 5pm and the last day to postmark the actual ballot is November 2nd. Click the link below for information on the auditor’s website.
