About 25 people attended a campaign visit at the Greene County Republican Party headquarters Tuesday afternoon in Jefferson.
Eric Branstad made his third trip to Greene County in the last month and said he is now on the campaign trail with John Pence, the nephew of Vice-President Mike Pence. Branstad said he and Pence were on a two-day swing through the state, going to multiple towns and talking about getting the Republican vote for President Donald Trump. Pence then spoke about Trump fighting for freedom and appointing Supreme Court Justices who are God-fearing and constitutional judges. He also mentioned the racial injustice protest that was taking place in Jefferson and how that was a peaceful demonstration for standing up for the rights of others, and not a destructive means.
Pence urged people in Iowa to vote.
“Already here in Iowa, you can go vote. And as I asked folks in the room if you voted, find four more people to vote early, and vote for freedom. Vote for a Republican Party and a president that is standing up in defense of our freedoms every single day.”
Pence also believed that the vice-presidential debate is not a foregone conclusion, but a chance for all U.S. citizens to hear the candidates explain their viewpoints and what they believe in. Early voting in Iowa is now underway.
