Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate Theresa Greenfield visited Landus Cooperative in Yale Tuesday morning.
Greenfield was given a tour of Landus’ facilities by President and Chief Executive Officer Matt Carstens, Location Manager Ethan Taube, Regional Manager Jay Sturtz, and other Landus employees. The group talked about corn and soybean yields this year as affected by the drought, and the effects of the derecho, which did leave a dent in one of the cooperative’s grain bins in Yale. Greenfield shares why she chose to visit Landus as a campaign stop, “This is just the heart and soul of our ag industry and so getting the chance to get out here and talk about the economy, the things that are going well and the things that aren’t going so well. Some of the struggles of the derecho, some of the struggles of low-commodity prices, but some of the optimism about the future. How we tackle climate change by investing in conservation and things like that. Some of their new things they’re doing here, their feed mill that they’ll be putting up.”
Greenfield also spoke with Landus representatives about labor shortages and incentivizing those from outside Iowa to settle down in communities like Yale. Greenfield is running against Republican incumbent Joni Ernst for the U.S. Senate on November 3rd.
