A teen faces a felony drug charge following an investigation by the Jefferson Police Department.
According to the department, an officer tried to conduct a traffic stop for a headlight that was out at 10:22pm Friday, October 2nd at Highway 30 and Grimmell Road. The vehicle failed to stop and a chase ensued. The vehicle went west on Wall Street from Grimmell Road and then north onto Kirkwood Avenue. The vehicle then stopped into a farm site, where two individuals fled on foot from the vehicle.
The officer caught the female passenger as the driver went into a cornfield. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office drone was used but the male driver wasn’t found. Following the investigation, Police Chief Mark Clouse says they identified the two suspects and filed charges. The 16-year-old male driver from Jefferson is charged with a Class D Felony for eluding with drugs and a serious misdemeanor for his first offense for possession of marijuana. The 17-year-old female passenger also from Jefferson was charged with a serious misdemeanor for her first offense for possession of marijuana.
Clouse tells Raccoon Valley Radio because the felony charge on the 16-year-old wasn’t a forcible felony, his name will not be released. Misdemeanor charges on juveniles also don’t have names released. The charges have been turned over to Juvenile Court.
