A Des Moines man was recently convicted for a theft and vehicle pursuit that occurred in Guthrie County.

Court records show 31-year-old Robert Eugene Wimer pleaded guilty to eluding while participating in a felony, a class D felony, and an amended charge of operating without owner’s consent, an aggravated misdemeanor. Wimer was sentenced to serve up to five years in prison for the first offense and two years in prison for the second, to be served concurrently. He must also pay $1,375 in fines with a 15% surcharge and full restitution. All traffic citations issued are dismissed with court costs to be paid by Wimer.

He was originally charged with second degree theft, a class D felony, as well as eluding for the May 8th incident in which Wimer was engaged in a law enforcement pursuit beginning in Van Meter and ending on County Road P28 near Monteith Road. Wimer was driving a stolen vehicle from Des Moines and law enforcement deployed two sets of stop sticks and used a pursuit intervention technique maneuver to stop him.
